Succession Planning
Landowners own property of significant potential value with two unique characteristics: 1) Significant management decisions will be made over the extended period of time that a stand of timber matures and the market evolves; and 2) This time period will likely span generations. When one generation transfers ownership, there will be transfer costs to manage, as well as naming a capable successor who can address the timber management issues to be faced. Succession planning addresses both of these issues and offers an intergenerational perspective to do so effectively.

Actual web seminar details are provided below. For troubleshooting assistance please contact Allyson at abm173@psu.edu.
- The site is accessible, but there won't be any action until approximately 20 minutes prior to the webcast. A welcome note is visible. You should try the connection now to ensure you don't have any glitches. To use the PA Forests Web Seminar Center, you must have a Friend of Penn State User ID. Encourage friends and family to register independently (it's fast, free and happens only once). Have them go to http://rnrext.cas.psu.edu/PAForestWeb/registration.html for registration.
- To Access the site, click on the WEBCAST URL (see number 4 above). Select the "Login" option and sign in with your Penn State User ID and password (which you received when you registered to become a "Friend of Penn State"). Try this NOW and let us know if you have a problem signing in. You'll repeat the same sign-in process at the time of the webcast on the second Tuesday of the month.
- When you arrive at the site via the above URL, you can test your sound capacity via the "meeting" pull-down menu and then the audio wizard. During the conference, participants will be able to hear but not speak to the presenters. If you are using a modem, experience tells us that the graphics & pictures will display, but the sound may lag a bit. This may be frustrating to some users. Perhaps visit your local library or Penn State Cooperative Extension office (call first) - don't forget to take your Friend of Penn State User ID and password with you.
- You can practice typing a note on the "Questions and Comments" chat box. We will clear all existing notes before the webcast begins.
- The site will officially open for the webcast 15 minutes prior to each session (noon and 7:00 PM).
- We have online seminars scheduled for the next year (with a hiatus during July and August). Check the PA Forests Web Seminar Center for topic updates http://rnrext.cas.psu.edu/PAForestWeb/upcomingseminars.html.
- If you're having trouble with one browser (e.g., Mozilla Firefox), try another (e.g., Internet Explorer). Some versions of Mozilla do not allow the web seminar area to load correctly.
- This webcast is eligible for SAF continuing forestry education credits for registered participants. The credits are 1.0 credit hour of category 2. At the end of the session, we will post a Continuing Education credit pod in which attending Certified Foresters seeking credit will type their name. We will submit a certificate to them via email and send a list of participants to SAF following each approved seminar.
- Other continuing education credits may be available for this seminar. Contact your continuing education coordinator to determine if this fits in with your education needs. At the end of the session, we will post a Continuing Education credit pod in which attendees seeking credit will type their name and the type of credit they need.
